Maarjamäe, which stands on a cliff of Tallinn's Bay, was first founded as a summer manor in the 17th century. The present building in neugothic style and with high cornertower was finished in 1874, by plan by Petersburg's architect Robert Gödicke. The building has filled many functions, but now there are expeditionhalls of Estonian Historymuseum.
