43 kilometres from Tartu in the direction of Räpina lies one of Estonia’s most perfectly preserved manor complexes – Mooste. Although there are records of a village known as Moisekatz dating back as far as 1242, construction of the existing grand manor only began in 1903, when it was owned by Eduard von Nolken. The principal stone management buildings and high wall surrounding them were quickly erected. The Neo-Renaissance aristocratic mansion was completed in 1909. At the same time as the buildings were constructed, a lot of work was also done on the park, with landscaping all the way to picturesque Lake Mooste. In addition to a school, there is also an international art studio, national theatre and master handicraftsmen’s workshop in the manor complex.
