Ruila manor, on the Tallinn-Haapsalu highway, was first mentioned in 1417. The owners of the manor at the beginning of the 19th century, the Bremens, erected a new two-storey main building on the site of the former manor house. The ground floor was built from stone while the upper floor was constructed from wood. The manor’s large park has been preserved, along with several of its outbuildings. The main building has a museum room in which you can thoroughly acquaint yourself with the history of the manor and the region as a whole. In her memoirs Isabelle von Bremen writes: “We left in October 1939. The last we heard of Ruila was that a local teacher had asked after our building as a school house.” And so Ruila School, what was established in the 1871, has been in the manor from 1940. Today it is also well-known as a riding centre.
